LaserPLY Die Boards

LaserPLY Die Boards

If you want your die makers using the flattest, virtually core void-free dieboard with a guaranteed thickness tolerance of +/-0.2mm, make sure they’re using LaserPLY Die Boards. Over the past 20+ years, PG Wood Imports has delivered the very best die boards to our distributors in the industry. All LaserPLY Die Boards are raw or UV-coated in clear and proprietary colors. Every LaserPLY Die Board exceeds industry standards set by the IADD and the ESU/EDA and, most importantly, by the hardworking individuals who make and cut dies daily and demand excellence in the die boards they use. For your convenience, LaserPLY Die Boards come in a vast array of panel sizes and thicknesses— metric and imperial—to satisfy all proprietary machinery, laser die cutting, corrugated, folding carton and stripping application needs. Whether you like to buy large and nest your dies or buy small for easy in-house handling and no cutting or nesting, we deliver. If you don’t see it listed, just ask. We’ll have the size you need custom-made for your application.

Where LaserPly Die Boards Can Be Used

Packaging and Folding Cartons

LaserPLY die boards, made from imported birch plywood, are widely used in the folding carton sector, where high-speed flatbed die cutting is standard. These boards support precise rule insertion, optimal kerf tolerance, and minimal warping, which are critical for die-making in applications such as:
  • pharmaceutical cartons,
  • consumer goods boxes, and
  • food-grade packaging.
Their homogenous composition allows clean laser cutting, reducing post-processing needs and enabling tighter control over diemaking tolerances. The smooth, uniform density across the board ensures superior rule retention and alignment for high-volume automated production.

Corrugated Board Converting (Flat and Rotary Dies)

In corrugated packaging, LaserPLY is employed in both flat and rotary dieboards, where it withstands the higher mechanical demands of cutting thicker, fluted materials such as single-wall, double-wall, or triple-wall corrugated fiberboard. Rotary dies, in particular, require die boards with exceptional dimensional consistency and resistance to stress fractures. LaserPLY delivers consistent compression strength, excellent fastener holding properties, and low moisture absorption. It is suitable for long die runs and high wear environments such as box plants and corrugated converters.

Label, Gasket, and Industrial Die Cutting

LaserPLY boards are extensively used in kiss-cutting and through-cutting dies for labels, industrial gaskets, and technical films. These applications demand micron-level precision and edge fidelity, particularly in the automotive, medical device, and electronics sectors. LaserPLY’s stable internal structure ensures minimal fiber pull or charring during laser processing, enabling tight, clean edges and repeatable detail. Its compatibility with fine rules and detailed configurations makes it ideal for dense layouts and nested die patterns in converters producing foam, rubber, or laminated materials.

POP Displays and Promotional Packaging

Point-of-purchase displays and short-run promotional packaging often utilize dieboards for custom dielines involving intricate graphics and complex profiles. LaserPLY’s uniform thickness and excellent laser engravability allow for the fast production of detailed designs without delamination or edge distortion. It is particularly beneficial for mixed-material cutting—such as foam core, corrugated plastic, and laminated boards—where tolerance and surface stability are crucial.

Blister Packaging and Thermoforming

In thermoformed packaging, especially blister packs for pharmaceuticals, electronics, and consumer goods, LaserPLY dieboards are employed post-forming for cut-and-crease tooling. These boards resist dimensional shifts from fluctuating environmental conditions, such as heat and humidity, during the thermoforming cycle. Their rigidity and screw-holding ability ensure alignment and pressure uniformity in steel rule dies used to trim formed plastics and seal layers.

Textile, Leather, and Composite Material Cutting

LaserPLY is also used in the die-cutting of soft and semi-rigid materials, including leather, technical textiles, felt, and automotive interior composites. Its high internal bond strength and consistent machinability support complex multi-out tooling with fine rule insertions. Industries such as footwear, fashion accessories, and automotive upholstery benefit from its longevity and ability to hold tolerances under high repeat cycles and abrasive materials.
